Quinsept's Family Roots "Orphans"

FAMILYROOTS-L

Welcome to the information page about the FAMILYROOTS mailing list, for DOS and Macintosh users of Quinsept's Family Roots genealogy software who were "orphaned" when Steve Vorenberg closed the Quinsept company in August 1997. I am Margo Burns (margo@ogram.org), the list-owner, and user of Family Roots for the Macintosh since version 1.2 in 1987. I have very little technical expertise myself with the program, but thought it would be good if we all pooled our resources and were able to stay in touch, which is why I put up these few pages. I know of only one person who is doing actual technical support, with Quinsept's blessing, and that is Kathryn Bassett (kathryn@bassett.net).

If you subscribe to this list in regular "mail mode", you will receive every posting made to FAMILYROOTS as a separate e-mail. If you subscribe in "digest mode," several postings are combined and sent to you together as a single large message.

1. How to subscribe in "mail mode." Send a message to

FAMILYROOTS-L-request@rootsweb.com

that contains (in the body of the message) the command

subscribe

and no additional text.

2. How to unsubscribe from "mail mode." Send a message to

FAMILYROOTS-L-request@rootsweb.com

that contains (in the body of the message) the command

unsubscribe

and no additional text.

3. How to subscribe in "digest mode." Send a message to

FAMILYROOTS-D-request@rootsweb.com

that contains (in the body of the message) the command

subscribe

and no additional text.

4. How to unsubscribe from "digest mode." Send a message to

FAMILYROOTS-D-request@rootsweb.com

that contains (in the body of the message) the command

unsubscribe

and no additional text.

5. How to change to NOMAIL mode. There is no formal NOMAIL mode. All you have to do is follow the directions above and unsubscribe when you want the messages to stop, and then when you want them to start again, simply subscribe again.

6. If you'd like to post a message so everyone on the mailing list receives it, just send it to FAMILYROOTS-L@rootsweb.com. It will then be sent on to everyone in both mail and digest mode. You don't need to send it explicitly to both.
